The Diaspora Dollar Can Build More Than a House

Oct 19, 2026 · Jana Bayad

Millions of people live far from the country where they were born. Together, they are called the diaspora. Many of them send money home to help their families.

Last year, that money added up to more than $700 billion. That is a lot of love, sent across the ocean.

Many of these families have one big dream: to own a house back home.

The tricky part

Imagine buying a house you have never seen, in a country far away. How do you know the house is real? How do you know the person selling it really owns it?

For a long time, there was no easy way to check, so many families waited and kept dreaming. Now there is a better way.

One house, many helpers

Nestadia makes buying a house from far away safer and clearer. Instead of hoping, the buyer gets a team of helpers in their home country:

  • A lawyer, chosen by the buyer, checks that the seller really owns the house.
  • An engineer visits the house to make sure it is real and built right.
  • Builders keep building, because buyers can now trust them.
  • The land office writes the buyer's name on the house papers.

The money waits in a protected account in the U.S., called escrow. The seller is paid a little at a time, as each step is done, and the buyer watches it all from one screen. Seen a house online? Families can send Nestadia the link, and Nestadia checks the seller for free. So one house does not just help one family. It gives work to lawyers, engineers, builders and many more people back home.

Now dream bigger

Now picture thousands of families buying homes this way, in country after country. The helpers get busier. New teams start. People who build apps, tell stories and look after homes all find new work.

Chart: the more homes people buy, the more people get to work — from one house (lawyer, engineer, builders) to many houses in one country (busy law offices, local teams) to many countries (tech builders, storytellers, growing towns). A picture of what is possible, not real numbers.

The promise

Money sent with love can do more than help for a day. It can build a house. It can give someone a job. It can help a whole town grow.

Nestadia was started by Jana Bayad, who knows what it feels like to love a home far away. That is the future Nestadia is building, starting in Ghana and Kenya: a world where every home bought from far away also builds a better life for the people back home.

One house at a time, we can build much more than houses.
